I began my career at a digital agency, initially focused on promoting the firm itself through digital marketing. As my skills grew, I transitioned into client work, joined sales appointments as a technical resource, and eventually managed the agency’s service delivery with full P&L responsibility.
Over time, I became frustrated by the limits of agency contracts. I knew I could deliver more impact for clients, but red tape and rigid scopes kept me from doing my best work. Then I looked at the numbers. My salary was low compared to the revenue I had sold, delivered, and grown. The gap was too wide to ignore.
A fractional CMO we worked with noticed my contributions and pulled me aside. He said, “I want more of your time and less of the agency’s bureaucracy.” Then he asked the question that changed everything: Had I ever considered working for myself? With his guidance, I struck out on my own, starting with two of his clients. From there, my business grew entirely through referrals into a thriving independent practice.
